The Glut of the Capitolistic Christmas

I think bloated is the right word here.  Like after just having ate the biggest Thanksgiving dinner ever.  The sickening tired that grabs a hold and won’t shake off.  We started out the Christmas season with my wife saying it’s going to be a little Christmas this year due to lack of cash, probably like most people lately.  But as we shopped it got bigger and bigger.  We did our part to help the economy - like it matters.  Going on two days after the big day now and our living room still looks like some kind of epic party took place here.  Thing in boxes, out of boxes, half out of the boxes and strewn about everywhere.  We had to try again to clean out the kids small bedroom to make room for some of the incoming new stuff.  So out with some of the old.  It just all seems such a waste sometimes.  We have thrown out things that some children would be happy all their days to get just one of.  Some of the things we paid good money for in their time now just discarded like it’s nothing.

It’s not that I think we spent too much on our children but I think we probably did.  I don’t really think we spent more than any other middle class family of four.  But we just barely peak at the bottom rung of middle class then it seams ripped away by forces out of our control.  I wanted my children to have the video game systems and all the fun games and mp3 payers and such cause we care for them so much.  But yet, then why do we all say it’s from Santa?  If we said it was from Mom & Dad maybe they would appreciate us more?  Maybe not.

I suppose after the new toys break in and many just break, and order is regained, I may have a more normal perspective.  Right now I just feel like all we gave our children are THINGS to fight over.  Isn’t that whats wrong with the world?  Everybody wants what someone else has?  And the the dollar rules the land.  There was nothing at all of any moral value attached to this Christmas.  I would be happy with a Christmas without presents and therefor without greed.  And no shopping or wrapping either.  I would drag my family to Church and the children could be in a Christmas play.  I’m sure they could play great sheep or something.  Everyone else may hate it, but it would make me happy.
